SCO Meeting: Pakistan has sent Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Goa.sco) has not yet decided on India’s invitation to attend the meeting. Explain that all SCO members are expected to participate in the foreign ministers’ meeting in May, which will be hosted by India. Pakistan Foreign Ministry sources confirmed that the invitation letter has been received but no decision has been taken on whether the Foreign Minister will visit India or not.
India is hosting SCO for the first time
This is the first time that India has got the opportunity to host the SCO. If the invitation is accepted, it will be the first visit by a Pakistani foreign minister to India since Hina Rabbani Khar in 2011. Khar is currently the Minister of State for External Affairs.
If Bilawal does come to India, his visit would be under question as protests were held in India over his ‘indecent’ remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the UN Security Council meeting.
India and Pakistan are full members of SCO
Established in Shanghai in June 2001, the SCO has eight full members, including its six founding members, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. India and Pakistan joined as full members in 2017. PTI sent a text message to Pakistani Foreign Office spokeswoman Mumtaz Zahra Baloch asking if her office would issue a statement on the matter, to which she replied “no.”
