Ravi Shastri Birthday: Team India’s former head coach Ravi Shastri is going to celebrate his 61st birthday tomorrow i.e. on 27th May. are. Ravi was born on 27 May 1962 in Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra. His full name is Ravi Shankar Jayadritha Shastri. His parents were residents of Karnataka and were doctors by profession. He was interested in cricket since childhood. Ravi started playing cricket from the time of school. Coach Desai Sir taught him to play cricket. Ravi Shastri came into the limelight in 1977 when he created history by winning the Giles Shield Trophy for the first time. So let’s know about some important moments related to Ravi’s life.

Ravi made important contribution for India

Ravi is known for his significant contribution to Indian cricket. Ravi first played great cricket for India and then also served as a coach for Team India. Ravi Shastri has represented the Indian cricket team in Tests and ODIs. Ravi Shastri was also a part of the 1983 World Cup winning team. Ravi got a chance to play Ranji Trophy for Maharashtra at the age of 17. Ravi Shastri has also been in India’s Under 19 team. In the year 1981, Ravi Shastri took 9 wickets in the Irani Trophy. This was a great record in itself.

Made debut in 1981, retired at 31

Ravi Shastri made his debut in England in the year 1981. In 1985, during the World Championship of Cricket, Ravi hit 6 sixes in 1 over of Gary Sobers. This was a great record in itself. Ravi played for India till 1992. There was always a place in his team. He played his last match against South Africa and surprised everyone by retiring at the age of 31, Ravi Shastri had to retire due to knee injury at the age. After which Ravi Shastri started being seen as a commentator. Ravi scored 3108 runs in 150 Tests and 3830 runs in 80 ODIs for India. So there he took 129 wickets in Tests and 151 wickets in ODIs.

Shastri’s coaching time was not much memorable for the Indian team. He did not win any major ICC trophy to Team India. Ravi Shastri’s tenure as coach was very different. He took over as the coach of Team India in 2016. Under his coaching, India just won a memorable Test series in Australia and made it to the semi-finals and final of the 2019 World Cup and the ICC World Test Championship. During his tenure, the dispute between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma came to the fore and Virat Kohli was removed from the captaincy and Rohit was given the command of the team.
